US 5,934,226 on bird diaper

Lorraine Moore obtained U.S. 5,934,226 for a diaper for pet birds on August 10, 1999. A spandex pouch to collect droppings is supposed to be attached to the bird by elastic straps and hooks with openings left for the wings and tail feathers. The invention is for sale under the more appealing name of “FlightSuits” for birds.

The first claim states:

A sanitary apparatus for use with a bird comprising:

a front section of fabric including a top surface and a bottom surface;

a back section of fabric connected to said front section of fabric, said back section of fabric including a bottom surface and a top surface having a top edge, said bottom surface of said back section of fabric containing means defining an aperture therethrough, said aperture being sized for receiving the tailfeathers of the bird, said top surface of said back section of fabric being longitudinally split from said top edge of said top surface to said aperture to form a first tab and a second tab;

fastening means for fastening said first tab to said second tab;

a pouch formed from the interconnection of said front section of fabric and said back section of fabric, said pouch being suited for receiving fecal matter therein; and

a pair of connectors, each of said connectors includes two ends, wherein one end of each of said connectors is connected to the top surface of said front section of fabric and the other ends of said connectors are connected to the top surface of said back section defining a first orifice, a second orifice, and a third orifice, said first and second orifice being suited for receiving the wings and legs of the bird and said third orifice being suited for receiving the head of the bird.

Rosemary Jones obtained US 6,132,412, entitled Genitourinary elimination covering system, which in turn is ctied by US 6,635,038, entitled Disposable incontinence device. The first claim of the '038 says:

A male urinary apparatus for receiving a penis of a user, comprising: a) a urinary bag for containing discharge of urine from the penis; b) said urinary bag being shaped to fit within a crotch area of the user, said bag having an upper end, a lower end, a front side, and a rear side, and made from impermeable material that is leak-proof; c) said bag having an opening in a central upper part of said rear side of said bag for receiving only said penis; d) a ring disposed about said opening for encircling the penis; e) means for adjusting the size of said ring for closely fitting said penis to prevent leakage of urine comprising a slit extending from said ring, said slit foldable back into folds, and a sealing tab attached to one of said folds for overlapping said folds, said tab having means for fastening said tab to said bag; f) means for attaching said bag to the user, g) absorbent material disposed in said bag, said absorbent material having a cavity to receive the penis for absorbing urine; h) said means for attaching said bag to the user comprising a waist strap adjustable in length, a pair of leg straps, and a pair of front straps; and i) said leg straps each having a first end and a second end, said first end being attached to said waist strap, and said second end having hook and loop material for attachment to said urinary bag, each of said front straps having a first end attached to said waist strap and a second end having hook and loop material for attachment to said urinary bag, said urinary bag having mating hook and loop material on the upper end of said front side for engagement with said front straps and mating hook and loop material on a lower end of said front side for engagement with said leg straps.
