New Hwang-gate twist: cells sabotaged with fungus to conceal nonhuman origin?

joongangdaily: Prosecutors investigating the Hwang Woo-suk stem cell fraud case said Feb. 7, 2006 they had tentatively concluded that the contamination of stem cell lines that occurred in January 2005 at the Seoul National University laboratories was not accidental, as Dr. Hwang's research team claimed, but sabotage.
Their evidence was circumstantial; they said the six cell lines were kept in different laboratories and that contamination of them all by the same fungus would have been very unlikely.
Prosecutors went even further in their speculation, saying they suspected Kim Sun-jong, a former researcher on the team, of being behind the contamination in an effort to hide the fact that the cell lines were not human stem cells. Mr. Kim and Dr. Hwang differed in their accounts as to how the contamination might have occurred.
