Star-Ledger on Vivian Sanks King

In the UMDNJ fraud saga, Josh Margolin wrote in July 2009 about a document from June 10, 2008 which indicated that Vivian Sanks King [former general counsel of UMDNJ) would not be prosecuted.

Margolin included Christie's take on the matter:

"As general counsel, Ms. Sanks King was the corporate officer responsible for insuring that UMDNJ complied with the law.

"The publicly reported facts that our multi-year criminal and civil investigation uncovered clearly prove she failed in her job and failed the taxpayers of New Jersey who paid her salary. Not being charged with a crime is hardly an exoneration of that performance or a justification for continued employment."

The nub of the issue against Sanks-King:

Christie and his team said they [legal staff] either aided or took no action to stop the double-billing scheme.

If a lawyer knows about a problem, and takes no action to resolve the problem, then the lawyer has a problem. That could apply just as well to a patent prosecution attorney.

The story also notes:

Sanks King is suing UMDNJ, as well as some of its board members, along with Petillo and Codey. She claims she was wrongfully terminated, denied her constitutional rights and a victim of racial discrimination.
