IBM still number 1 in patents
IFI Patent claims published its 2012 list of top patent assignees.
IBM was number 1 with 6478. The only other US companies in the "top 10" were Microsoft at number 6 (with 2613 ) and General Electric at number 9 (with 1652).
Samsung of Korea was number 2 with 5081 and Canon of Japan was number 3 with 3174. Hon Hai of Taiwan was number 8 with 2013.
Google was number 21 with 1151.
There were no pharma, chemical or biotech companies in the top 50.
