Eddie Murray, Advanced Medical Optics, and Abbott Labs
According to the SEC, Murray made about $235,314 in illegal profits after Illinois-based Abbott Laboratories Inc. publicly announced its plan to purchase Advanced Medical Optics through a tender offer. Murray agreed to pay $358,151 to settle the SEC's charges.
From the Associated Press, 13 Jan 2009: Medical products and drug maker Abbott Laboratories said Monday that it was buying Advanced Medical Optics Inc. of Santa Ana for about $1.36 billion plus debt to expand its eye care offerings, including laser vision correction. North Chicago, Ill.-based Abbott's $22-a-share offer is more than double Advanced Medical's Friday closing price of $8.85.
From Bloomberg, 17 Dec. 2005: Alcon Inc., the world's largest maker of eye-care products, said a court awarded $213.9 million in damages to Santa Ana-based Advanced Medical Optics Inc. in a patent infringement lawsuit.
Those in patent litigation may remember Visx.
From 11 Feb. 2005: Visx Inc., the Santa Clara, Calif.-based maker of laser vision correction equipment, reported a lower fourth-quarter profit because of merger-related expenses. Visx, which in November agreed to be acquired by Advanced Medical Optics Inc.
