Academic Douglas Brinkley unloads in Congress

In a move unthinkable for his namesake (not relative) David Brinkley, Rice University historian Douglas Brinkley stated to Alaskan Congressman Don Young :

"You don't own me. I pay your salary!"

In turn, Young noted:

"We're the ones who ask the questions, and you're the one who answers the questions. Boy I'm really pissed right now.

**UPDATE

As to the comment of Doug [below], IPBiz suggests the tact frequently taken by David Brinkley might be the preferable one.

I truly wish Dr. Brinkley had been able to keep his cool until after Rep. Young finished, and then requested that he be given time to respond. Had he done so, he could have collected his thoughts & given a blistering response that would have been so much more effective. I do understand his reaction to being insulted by Young calling his work "garbage" in a public forum. However, by that insult, Young showed the public what kind of man he truly is.

The reactions of Tea Party folks will be most interesting. Rep. Young will likely be a 'hero' to the uneducated folks (Sarah is about to chime in) as much as Dr. Brinkley will be a hero to those who are educated, especially in the physical sciences.

Funny no one mentions the National Energy Act any more.
