Changes at PatentScope

Patent searching at WIPO changed around May 31, 2011. The site noted some details.

In line with the nature and purpose of the PATENTSCOPE portal, the 2005 logo included the image of a magnifying glass, archetypal symbol of search. The orange color added a pinch of energy and the circled R ® indicated that PATENTSCOPE was a registered trademark.

After six years of faithful service, the time has come for a change. In today’s rapidly evolving world of technology and the growing importance of e-services, the magnifying glass seems somewhat outdated, and has therefore been removed. The ® also disappeared during this revamping process, although PATENTSCOPE is still a registered trademark! The final result of this make-over is PATENTSCOPE, simply written in capitals letters.

PATENTSCOPE was initially created as the Gateway to Patent Services and Activities of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). In reality, users primarily associated PATENTSCOPE to the patent search system. Over time, general opinion has prevailed so, as of today, PATENTSCOPE will be the name of the WIPO patent search system and its associated tools, such as PATENTSCOPE Translate.

If you have not checked it out yet, please do so by going to http://www.wipo.int/patentscope/search/en/search.jsf .

[The June 2, 2011 published applications do not seem (yet) to be available for search.]
