"The Railway Children": 100 year old plagiarism?

In 1896, Ada J Graves wrote The House by the Railway in which children save a passing train from doom by waving red items, and are subsequently rewarded with engraved watches.

Nine years later, E. Nesbit (Edith Nesbit) wrote The Railway Children, in which three children save a passing train by waving red items, and are subsequently rewarded with engraved watches.

Nesbit's biographer Julia Briggs credits Nesbit with having invented the children's adventure story. One notes Stevenson's Treasure Island was originally serialized in the children's magazine Young Folks between 1881–82, before any work of Nesbit was published.
