Gone!

The newspaper frontpage has a departing backside on the left and the right side is mostly blank space with the word "Gone" in large type on the top half.

Yes, July 9, 2010 is the last day of production for the PT Cruiser:

Sadly, the PT Cruiser failed to keep pace with the innovations of its competitors. The Detroit Free Press explains: “The PT Cruiser's history is the story of what Chrysler does brilliantly -- create unique, desirable new vehicles -- and of the failure to build on success that has repeatedly brought the company to its knees. … If Chrysler executives had followed up on the PT's initial success, they could have turned the car into an icon for the company. Instead, they left it alone as a singular sensation that bore no relationship to any other Chrysler vehicle.”

That story says a lot about "first mover advantage."

The other headline? The Cleveland Plain Dealeron LeBron James.

Of the James matter, an "open letter" from Dan Gilbert takes the concept of motivation (of relevance in obviousness determinations) to a whole new level:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Of course, the "personal guarantee" might be a topic for a contracts class.
